Key Facts

  • Khululeka is an educational play about HIV/AIDS.
  • It has been performed at hundreds of South African schools.
  • The play encourages youth to break the silence around HIV/AIDS.

In October 2007, 46664 partnered with Viva Hecate Productions to take 60-minute educational play, Khululeka,“It’s in our hands” to schools throughout Gauteng. Since October, Khululeka has been performed in over 400 schools in Gauteng, and there are plans to take the play to schools in other provinces.

The play is based on the true stories of people who have lived with HIV and AIDS, and encourages young people to get tested, know their status, and break the silence that surrounds the disease. Relevant statistics about HIV and AIDS in South Africa are mentioned throughout the play.

Personal and poignant, Khululeka stresses the necessity of banishing the stigma of being HIV-positive through educating learners about the reality of HIV/AIDS.
