Should I have my son tested again?
Sis’ Lebo, I found out I was HIV positive when I was three months pregnant in 2006. After I gave birth to my son I got him tested as well and he tested negative. During my pregnancy I wasn’t sexually active and did everything I could to protect my son. I was told that if I abstain, and do the necessary things to keep my baby healthy, he might be negative. After he was tested I asked if I should bring him back for another test at a later date and they said no, there is no need for me to do that as the baby is fine. He is now two-and-half years old, healthy and never been sick from any HIV-related illness. What I’m asking is do I need to take him for another test to see if he is alright or was his initial test 100% accurate?
