Will my doctor help me with my ARV treatment?

I was receiving my ARV treatment at my nearest clinic, but now I am on a medical aid, so I’m supposed to be treated by my doctor. However, the clinic staff doesn’t want me to be treated by my doctor, as they say that I will die. They say that the doctors don’t care about us, they only care about money. Is this true, because am confused and scared now?

I am happy to hear that you are on ART. I hope that they are helping you live well with HIV. It is very wrong and dangerous to make generalisations such as “all doctors are after money”. This general statement cannot be true about all doctors.

What I suggest you do is to carefully weigh all your options and the reasons why you want to move from receiving your tablets from your clinic. In other words, you must evaluate the benefits and risks of moving to a doctor. Discuss your options with a neutral health care worker so that you know the benefits and risks of your decision. Whatever you do, do not stop your treatment.

Good luck,

Sis Lebo
