Can I contract HIV from anal sex?

I’ve heard that if you have anal sex you’ll get HIV. Is this true?

Any form of unprotected sex exposes you to the risk of contracting HIV. Anal sex is risky because the skin around the anus is tight and thin. It is very easy for this skin to tear during sex. If this happens and either person in the sexual act is infected, it is possible that the mixing of the body fluids (semen and blood) will cause you to get infected.

It is therefore important to use condoms correctly and every time you have sex.

Good luck,

Sis’ Lebo
