Cassette received nominations for three South African Music Awards in 2007, including Best Group or Duo, and walked away with Best Rock Album award for their debut album, Welcome Back To Earth. They have collaborated with local legends such as the Mahotella Queens, Zubz and Vusi Mahlasela, and have opened for international artists such as Pink, Evanescence, Eagle Eye Cherry, Ronan Keating and many more.

Five major national hits have come off of their debut album, Welcome Back To Earth, to date, including Beautiful Smile, Tracy and Sometimes (featuring the Mahotella Queens), and which reached top 10 status on 5fm’s national top 40 countdown. Two of the band’s independently produced music videos have occupied the number one spot on MK89’s music video charts. Their Internet viral advertisements for their music (and for the Cassette brand) have received more than 2-million international viewings online, with three of these having been licensed by the BBC and German national TV for flighting in the UK and Europe.

In August 2007, Cassette embarked on their second European tour for the year, which took in six countries across Europe, in support of the album’s international release through RoughTrade records. Since then, the album has been released in a further 30 countries worldwide through Ryko (Warner Bros).

In South Africa, the band is signed to major record label, Sony BMG, and has been labelled by Elle magazine as “the most exciting rock band in South African by far”.

Cassette are known for their often outrageous live performances and their dedication to entertainment regardless of venue size.
